Justification for Being a "Hypocrite"
Written by Pazuzu - June 28, 1993
Both myself and Lestat have been receiving some criticism lately for being
"hypocrites", because it is well known that we both work and pay taxes.
Without giving any deep thought to it, I can certainly see why someone would
say that. It makes perfect sense. Sort of...
Our philosophy is this: Lestat and I (and all of the core membership of the
Column for that matter) are merely 1/8th of a drop in the ocean as far as the
Powers That Be are concerned. Even if all the Column core members stopped
paying their taxes (and not all of them even work!), that would be only like
5-6 people. The Powers are not going to notice 5 people, or even 100, or even
1000 for that matter. 10,000 people might get a nod in this direction,
100,000 would CERTAINLY be noticed, but 500,000 is our goal. This number will
get things changed.
So, you see, calling us hypocrites isn't quite fair. If we stopped tax paying
now, we'd only be tossed in jail, end of story. What we want is to effect
change, not get incarcerated. So, what we're doing is spreading the Truth,
hoping that people will be enlightened, and when the number is large enough,
we strike. THAT will have the desired effect.
There's an interesting thing we found out about laws: They MUST be written in
plain, simple language with ABSOLUTELY no "grey area"! This is according to
our Constitution, which all laws have to conform to. The reason for this is
that if you can't understand the law, how could you possibly follow it? Our
Forefathers didn't foresee the onslaught of lawyers (DAMN their oily hides!),
and that THEY would make the law sound tricky or complicated. If you read the
actual text of any law that has been in place for any length of time, it's
S-I-M-P-L-E. The Constitution is simple: "Each citizen has the right to keep
and bear arms. This right SHALL NOT be infringed." Nothing complicated there.
Lawyers and Judges and Politicians have made the law sound tricky and complex
so that the public will just think "Well, I can't understand, so, I'll just
go along with what you say, Your Honor." We say "FUCK THAT!". The law is
nothing. It's all very simple, and doesn't forbid much of what you think it
does. The statement "Information is power" could not be more true. For
example: In the California Vehicle Code is states "Each driver shall have a
current and valid license..." BUT, if you look several sections before,
"driver" is defined is someone who drives FOR PROFIT. So, YOU ARE NOT A
DRIVER, therefore DO NOT need a damned license!
There are many other ridiculous things that are done with "law" and if you
don't believe us, we have reams of documentation in the form of court
documents, etc, etc to back us up. Information is power. Another one (this is
courtesy of the Libertarian Party, whose lawyers have used this thousands of
times): You NEVER, EVER have to pay parking tickets. That's right: NEVER!
Why? Well, the whole premise of a parking ticket is that it's a "crime" to
park in a certain place or in a certain fashion. That's fine. The Cop is
issuing this ticket on the basis that he saw you commit this "crime". Well,
he didn't! He just came by, and saw your car there, so he assumed YOU put it
there. Well, what if you didn't? Who knows? That's what they call "reasonable
doubt", and that will get the ticket thrown out.
Anyway, I've gone off on a tangent from what this file was originally about,
but, the info has to get out!
